I'm back!

OMG! My people. What is up? It's been forever, I know! Life has been a little crazy up here in paradise. There's so much I haven't told you guys...I got married, had tons of babies, got a couple of tatoos, you know the usual. It was kind of sudden, but we are soooo happy together. Oka no, not gonna work. Freaking myself out. I'm still single and ready to mingle.

There have been new additions to my life, however. I have officially become a fan of "The Office", thanks to my friend Lindsey I watched all 5 seasons in a two week span. And that's because I was in the middle of midterms. If not, I might have done like when Christine got me hooked on LOST for the first time. I watched all 4 seasons in like 5 days. Then, I got my friend Karen hooked on LOST and she watched all 4 seasons in about a week...while she was at work.

Which reminds me...while I was away on my blog sabbatical I went to PR for spring break. I had originally planned to write a few entries while I was over there, but that quickly changed once I stepped into Trump Intl. It's like another world in there during PR OPEN week. I forgot how crazy everything gets. Maybe next year I can just pay someone to follow us around with a video camera...I think it would make for a very good reality TV show.

It was fun while it lasted though…I miss my people and all of our fun times amidst adversity. Here are some visuals:

Mother Nature at her finest..

Car #13...That vehicle was cursed to say the least...we lost it like 5 times!

My people! Volunteers, media, staff...All of the above and much much more!

My claim to fame...

Mother Nature also at her finest...can't beat that sunrise...6:15am, Rio Grande, PR
"The island" took a toll on me to say the least, but it's all good now...It only took me about 2 weeks and 3 days to recover...Can't say the same for my skin though, I'm still peeling...WTF? Who would have thought that all that time out of the sun could actually do more damage? I want/need black to come back!

In the meantime, I'll stick to life as is...keeping busy with school and work; and hoping for some good news this week. Prendan los velones!

Keep it real my people.

Peace out,
LD

Lately

I don't mind when my students are late. I actually like it...gives me a few minutes to relax between sessions, go to the restroom, check my e-mail, answer txt's, read, do homework, etc. etc. But the best part of their tardiness is the excuses. I always look forward to the excuses because there's usually a good, reasonable story which explains it all.
Today was no different. It was about 8:07 and still no sign of student #2. But I waited patiently until she finally arrived. She comes in the room with iPhone in hand and a face that reads "I really, really want to cry but I'm holding it in."
I look at her and say: "What's up?" She looks at me, sighs, puts her bag on the floor, sits on the chair and goes: "My boyfriend is an ass!" Just as I had predicted, good excuse story coming my way fast. However, I try to be a boring, "I'm not your friend" tutor so I proceed and start discussing the Spanish lesson.
But no, it wasn't happening, she was too distracted and just had to let it all out, which was fine by me because it was late, I'm feeling tired and would much rather chat than teach. So I said, "vamo' a hablar mija, que te pasa?"
How do I always end up being Dr. Phil to RANDOM people? Why? Don't they know I'm a stranger with ZERO relationship experience? Don't they realize that 110% of my advice comes directly from a reality tv show? I guess not, because they always nod and say: "you're right, that's so true". Crazy! Anyways, we spent the the better part of the hour discussing the more important things in life, which I would have to say was very entertaining, even though most of the info I felt was TMI. But whatever, girl talk is girl talk and you can never have too much TMI.
Peace out,
LD
PS: Fun question --> If you could choose a totally different career path, what would it be? In other words, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Don't be shy...please comment! Would love to hear what you have to say.
My answer: Photojournalist covering the lives of young people in impoverished nations and warzones...Mainly South Africa and Pakistan (crazy, I know...but sounds intresting)

And we're off...

First post of 2010 my people. What's up? Have you missed me? It's been a while...I know, I know. Went home for X-mas vacation and my life schedule got totally altered. That's oka though, one needs a break from the routine once in a while. Let me ponerlos al dia.

The holiday's were well spent...lots of family time & prosciutto, awesome memories with friends, new additions to the family, good food, good golf, warm weather, fun in the beach/sun (gosh now that I think about it, why did I come back?)...But I have to admit, I was ready to head back to what I can honestly call "Arctic Georgia" because man has it been freezing cold up here. And let me tell you what else happens when it gets cold and snowy...black ice! I took a bad fall on black ice the other day. Not pretty...The kind of fall where your legs flip up in the air almost over your head and you smash into the ground on your side. Well that's exactly what happened to me. It hurt bad! No worries my friends, I'm oka...Good thing I had enough cushioning which helped break the fall a bit...I got away with minor injuries.

School is up and running...taking 4 classes again this semester, should be interesting. Work is also underway. Got 4 new kidos in my tutoring sessions, but lucky for me I got to keep 2 of the old ones so there won't be that many students out there with a clueless tutor. I gotta start cracking the whip though. My old ones think I'm too cool for school, therefore, they only want to "chismiar" y "hang out" and not do real work. So the whip cracking starts next week.

Llegue!!

Aqui estoy degustando el queso brie...
So that's my update in a nutshell. On a side note: deadline has been extended until Feb. 28th due to scheduling conflicts...Miss you guys bunches! Thanks for the good food and fun times.

For now, looking ahead and thinking outside the box. Please keep Haiti in your thoughts...It hit too close to home for us just to blow it off...that country just can't catch a break. Dictatorship, poverty, hurricanes, voodoo...Sad...For a closer look click on this link:
